A Federal House of Representative aspirant in Abia State, Lady Blessing Uwaoma Nwokenneya, has lamented that despite the Nigerian women’s active participation and commitment in the country’s political process, it is still being the most neglected.
The politician disclosed this when she declared to contest and represent Isialangwa North and South in the House of Representatives on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State.
According to her, women and youths are numerically advantaged, hence, during any election, they form the bulk of voters at every polling units but regretted that they are not reckoned with in political affairs or after elections.
Nwokenneya noted further that her decision to contest the forthcoming election was to rescue her people from under-development, with a pledge to attract developmental projects to the constituency.
Supported by her husband, Ezeji Ephraim Nwokenneya, she vowed to repay APC for its confidence towards her if she gets the ticket of the party during the primary election.
She said: “Our women form the largest group of voters during elections; they patiently wait in the sun or rain to cast their votes. What do they get in return? Nothing! Our youths are used before the elections but abandoned to roam in poverty after elections, but I will end that vicious slide when elected.’’
At the event, the National Auditor of APC, George Muoghalu, said the aspirant has demonstrated the capacity to represent her people, and should therefore be supported.
He also pledged that his party would transform the Ngwa nation in the state and other parts of Igbo land if its mandate is renewed in 2019 polls.
Other notable chieftains at the event were former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu; Senator Nkechi Nworgu, among others.
